Although congress delayed the February transition to DTV until June 21, 2009 we are already almost there. With just over a month before the new switch date, now is a great time to check out the current cable deals as providers are eager to sign up new customers and are offering big savings. Charter cable is giving away an xBox a day to new subscribers in December. With great bundled pricing, HD and lots of other options it is a good time to get Charter and put yourself in the running for an xBox–especially for those of you who need to get cable before the DTV transition happens in February. Wouldn’t a free xBox from Charter make an awesome Christmas surprise?

We have all heard about the DTV transition which is happening on February 17, 2009 but people are still wondering what the bottom line is. The official government site answers lots of specific questions. Most people just want the bottom line though. So to sum it up:

  • If you currently have a DTV enabled TV you will not be affected.
  • If you have an analog TV you will not be affected if you already have cable or satellite service.

If you want to keep your analog TV you have 2 choices:

Considering that people are fairly financially strapped at the moment, it seems like a great Christmas gift to the whole family that will keep on giving to exercise one of these options for your family for the holiday. If you take the government coupon, you won’t have to pay much out of pocket. If you get cable or satellite service (depending on your package) you won’t have big upfront financial obligations as the costs are spread out over your service package. Plus, it gives to the entire family, just in time for the transition!

Soccer (or football to the international folks) fans are rejoicing because Setanta Sports network just got their first deal on a cable provider platform (which they have been trying to secure for years). Setanta channel is now available in Fairfax and Fredericksburg VA for $12.99 a month. Cox is using the Washington DC suburbs as a test market, but expects to roll out the channel to other markets in the upcoming months. The cost may go up to $14.99 when Setanta is rolled out across the country. Previous to now, Setanta was only available in the US via  Satellite Television, the internet, now defunct IPTV provider ITVN and Verizon FiOs TV.

If you live in Northern VA get Cox with Sentanta! If not call or email Cox and express your interest, it will help get Setanta to more markets as soon as possible.

If your area is not served by Cox, you can still get Sentanta through Satellite TV or call your local cable provider and express your interest. Now that Cox has “broken the seal” on this, all other providers will probably be hustling to stay competitive and carry Setanta as well.
